Tour De France in London

Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park looks forward to welcoming cycling fans as the biggest annual cycling event in the world, the Tour de France, comes to London for the first time in its 100-year history in July next year. In light of this momentous occasion, the hotel has created an exclusive package, ‘Tour de France 2007’, which includes two nights accommodation in a deluxe Hyde Park room or Park View suite, bicycle hire and a three course meal in-room or in The Park restaurant with expansive views across Hyde Park.

The three day start to the race, known as the ‘Grand Départ’ includes the Opening Ceremony, Prologue and Stage 1. The 8km Prologue – which ascertains cyclists starting position in the Stage 1 lineup – will pass directly in front of Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park along South Carriage Drive.

A much loved home from home for seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park is set to be the preferred residence for cycling fans across the globe. The Park restaurant and luxurious suites offer unrivalled views of Hyde Park and the Prologue route providing the best vantage point in London from which to view both the Caravan Publicitaire and the contenders as they take part in the Grand Départ on Saturday 7 July.

Chelsea blue or pillar box red ‘Classic City Cruiser’ bicycles are included so that guests can get into the Tour de France spirit and pedal through glorious Hyde Park at their leisure, perhaps stopping at a sunny spot to enjoy a luxury picnic hamper pre-arranged with the hotel’s concierge. The hotel’s doormen will be delighted to valet park guest’s bicycles when not in use. The hotel’s concierge can easily arrange chauffeur transfer to any part of the ‘Stage 1’ route on Sunday 8 July, from the opening ceremony in Trafalgar Square to St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London.
